Lower suction dentures that stay down

Lower dentures are known for floating and slipping. Our lower suction dentures use the technique taught by Dr. Jiro Abe of Japan to form a seal on your lower gums, so you can laugh, chew and speak without fighting your bottom denture.

The problem

Why lower dentures float

An upper denture has the whole roof of your mouth to create suction. A lower denture only has a narrow ridge of gum to sit on, with your tongue and cheek muscles moving around it every time you talk or eat.

After teeth are removed, that ridge slowly shrinks, which leaves even less to hold onto. That is why so many people end up relying on adhesive or avoiding certain foods with a regular lower denture.

How it works

How a lower suction denture holds

The Lower Suction Denture Technique, taught by Dr. Jiro Abe of Japan, changes how the denture is designed. We take special impressions with your mouth in a relaxed, closed position and shape the edges of the denture so the soft tissue under your tongue and along your cheeks seals around it.

That seal creates suction, the same way an upper denture holds, so the lower stays in place without adhesive for many patients.

Your options

Lower suction denture vs implant denture

Lower suction denture

Holds with a suction seal and needs no surgery. A very affordable alternative to dental implants for many patients.

Snap-in implant denture

Clips onto implants placed in your jaw for the most secure hold, but needs surgery and healing time. See implant dentures.

Regular lower denture

Rests on your gums without a seal. The simplest option, but the one most likely to float.

Is it right for you?

Who are lower suction dentures good for?

  • People whose current lower denture floats or needs adhesive
  • Anyone who wants a more stable lower without surgery
  • Patients who cannot have implants for health or bone reasons
  • People looking for a more affordable alternative to implant dentures

Not every mouth can form a strong seal, so Jason checks your gums and jaw at a free consultation and tells you honestly whether a suction denture, an implant denture or another option will work best.

Questions

Lower suction denture FAQs

How does a lower suction denture stay in without adhesive?

The edges of the denture are shaped so your soft tissue seals around them. That seal creates suction, the same way an upper denture holds against the roof of your mouth.

Is it as secure as an implant denture?

Implant dentures clip onto implants, so they are the most secure option. A suction denture is a big step up from a regular lower for many patients, without surgery.

Can my current lower denture be converted?

Usually not. The suction comes from how the whole denture is designed and how the impressions are taken, so it is normally made as a new denture.

Who is not a good candidate?

It depends on the shape of your lower ridge and the soft tissue around it. Jason will check at your consultation and tell you if another option would work better.

Does CDCP cover lower suction dentures?

CDCP covers dentures for eligible patients. We are a registered provider and can check your coverage for you.
